Ties of Turmoil is a fiber and found object artwork that shares my current familial connections as my parents suddenly separate. This work has been reconstructed out of materials from Family Ties, created in 2018. Knots and connected frames once referenced close bonds and certainty within my family structure. The reconstructed fiber fragments, found object embellishments, and separated frames now reference the chaos and confusion that is occurring. My color palette previously alluded to the calm and inviting environment that I experienced at

home a majority of the time.

My environment at home now is unpredictable and complicated; I have used the same materials and color scheme as a way to express my longing for a consistently calm environment. The four blue frames represent feelings of heartache from each member of my immediate family. The compositions within each frame are tightly contained with sections of chaotic pattern or texture that are restricted; a visual representation of the repressed emotions that we are each holding in. As time passes by I hope to look back at this process and find myself truly appreciating each moment as I've learned how quickly life transforms.
